Street Churches meet to pray for peace

Street Church leaders Wednesday evening Jan 21 saw Church leaders sharing the leading of prayers for peace and unity in Street Parish Church, with over 60 members of their congregations.

The peace theme had been chosen by Christians in Aleppo, Syria, and is being observed worldwide in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

After the service, the Church leaders showed their own Christian unity and love for the camera.

A Marriage Show in February

For several years the week of St Valentine's Day, 14th February, has been observed as National Marriage Week.

The Mothers Union with David Parsons put on a Marriage Show in Street Parish Church from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 February, with a special Sunday service at 6 pm on 15 Feb focussing on marriage and a Saturday evening concert on Valentine's Day itself at 7.30. The aims were

  • to give practical information about getting married in church - how to arrange a wedding, how much it will cost, who has the right to be married in church, etc.;
  • to present the teaching of Jesus about marriage;
  • to show off the church building as a venue for a wedding;
  • to celebrate existing marriages.
Mothers Union members asked local people to lend old wedding dresses, orders of service, photographs and other mementos, and a large exhibition was arranged.

At the Sunday evening service about 20 couples renewed their marriage vows, led by the Rector, John Greed, and his wife, Phyll.
