Arranging to have your child

baptised or christened

  • Will you christen our child, please?

Baptism in the Mission Church Yes of course! Christening or baptism is a sign of God's arms stretched out in love to everyone, including little children. We want to stretch out our arms to welcome you and your child into the loving community of the church.

  • So do we just turn up to church?

Well there's quite a lot to explain, if you are going to make the most of this wonderful ceremony. The Rector will look forward to spending an evening with you, the parents, and if possible the godparents, too, talking about it all. In fact, you and the godparents are asked to make some pretty important promises during the baptism service, and I'm sure you don't make promises without being sure what you're letting yourself in for - the small print, if you like. Get in touch with the Rector, the Reverend John Greed, at the Rectory next to the Mission Church, Vestry Close, Street. It is best to telephone first on 01458 442671. He will probably ask you to visit him on a Monday evening in the Mission Church to fill in a form and make arrangements.

  • When will the christening take place?

Normally it will be during a special Baptism service on the first Sunday afternoon of each month, but it may be in a morning service, so that all the church members will be there to welcome the new member.

  • And how much will it cost?

Nothing! Like God's love, baptism is freely offered.

Fun learning site for children

If you have an older child, here's a fun site where they can find out about Baptism. It uses Shockwave, so you may need to download that (free) program when it prompts you.
