Lent 2005: Learning from the World Church
The first of our Lent talks was on Zambia. Jenny Humphreys, Bath and Wells Missionary Advisor, was obviously very enthusiastic about the Make Poverty History campaign, giving us lots of dates, fact and figures, but also told us about her experience of visiting Christian brothers and sisters in Zambia. Asked what they had to teach us here, she simply said "Faith in God, and surrounding everything in prayer." She said that on her return to England she almost felt she had left God behind in Zambia.
The second talk, on the Church in China, included an excellent PowerPoint presentation outlining the history of Christianity in China - it first reached there in the 6th century - and an analysis of the strengths and problems of the 100-million strong Church there now, and what it can teach us.
